🍺 Mountain Town Brewing Co — 3068 Jen's Way, Mt Pleasant
First stop on the drive north. Mt Pleasant's hometown brewery inside Summit Smokehouse & Taproom. 22 craft beers on tap, smoked meats, and a proper send-off before hitting US-127 north. Order the Train Wreck amber. Camp Crunk II is officially underway.

Gourmet smash burger sliders out of the Backlot Beer Garden in Charlevoix. The Double Coastie Classic, the Hot Chicken, the Cowboy — get a stack. Northern Michigan serving big flavors on little buns since 2020.

Stock up for the weekend. Camp food, breakfast supplies, firewood, ice, beverages. The most important errand of the trip. Do not skip this step.

🏕️ Fisherman's Island State Park — 16480 Bells Bay Rd, Charlevoix
Set up camp first. Tents up, gear stowed, shoes where you can find them. Get the fire going. Five miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Some sites sit right in the dunes on the water. Stars are ridiculous out here.

Camp is set up. Tent poles located. Shoes accounted for. NOW we play Waterfall. Everyone starts drinking and you can't stop until the person before you stops. Simple rules. Significant consequences. Fire's going, stars are out. This is what it's all about.

🐻❄️ Polar Bear Rise & Shine
Into the lake. Lake Michigan in late June. Cold enough to wake up anyone. First one in sets the tone for the whole day. This is the tradition. No exceptions.
MORNING
🍳 Camp Breakfast
Fuel up before the ferry. Whatever's in the cooler. Coffee on the fire. No agenda. Just eat and get ready to roll.
DAY
⛴️ Ferry to Beaver Island — Beaver Island Boat Co
Ferry from Charlevoix — no passenger reservations needed, bikes welcome. Two hours across Lake Michigan. Ride the island — 13 miles long, almost zero traffic, deer everywhere. End up at Whiskey Point Brewing right on Beaver Island at 38230 Michigan Ave — the most remote brewery in Michigan, first and only on Lake Michigan. Harbor views, craft beer, pretzel plate. This is the reason you took Friday off.

Nobody knows what's coming. That's the point. Uncle Joey's cooking and the menu is a mystery. Could be anything. Whatever it is, it's going to be good. Respect the wild card. Pull up a chair.

Day two. Back in the lake. Yes again. It's colder the second morning. That's the tradition. Do it anyway.
MORNING
🍳 Breakfast at Camp — In a Pan
Last meal at camp. Everything left in the cooler goes in the pan. Eggs, whatever's left, cooked over the fire. Last cup of camp coffee. Everyone stands around the cold fire pit a minute longer than they need to. Then pack it up. Leave the site cleaner than you found it — that's the code.

🍜 The Avenue — 2021 E Michigan Ave, Lansing
The landing strip. Ramen, craft beer in mason jars, pinball machines, pool tables, live music. Eastside Lansing's best dive bar with surprisingly great food. The perfect decompression stop between the woods and real life. Debrief here. Order the pork katsu curry. Then go home smelling like campfire.
